Known to be one of the most haunted houses in the world, The Whaley House plays host to a number of wayward spirits. The first is that of Mr. Thomas Whaley himself. Horribly wronged when his house was ransacked by the citizens of the city over a disagreement, up to his death he has never been reimbursed for all the property damaged and stolen. His spirit, as well as his wife’s and children’s, can be seen climbing the stairs and walking the hallways.
The ghost of Annabelle Washburn one of the neighborhood children, can be spotted in the kitchen.
The unidentified ghost of a woman in the courtroom and a man at the top of the stairs can also been seen.
Another ghost, a man named Yankee Jim who was hanged on the grounds for stealing a boat, is known to traverse the grounds. During his hanging the rope failed to break his neck so he was allowed to dangle there until it strangled him.
